Re-Roofing at a School in Slough
We were approached by a local Academy trust to deal with roofing replacement works on one of their Schools. The existing roof was pitched and covered with Asbestos based artificial slates.
We arranged for Redland Roofing to attend site to provide us with a detailed specification for the roofing as the detailing was rather unusual. In addition there was a central flat roof and Langley were approached to undertake core sames and provide details of a replacement roof that would provide a long term guarantee.
We arranged for asbestos testing of the slates and soffits. A Building Regulations application was lodged due to the amount of the roof that was being replaced and the effect this would have on the thermal element.
Quatrefoils, acting as the Principal Designer collated a detailed specification of works along with Risk Assessment, Hazard Analysis and a pre tender Health and Safety Plan. The works were then tendered to a number of contractors.
The project was awarded to R Bensons and a JCT Minor Works contract entered into. The HSE was notified and the contractor provided a detail construction phase Health and Safety plan in conjunction with the school.
The bulk of works occurred during the summer holidays including all asbestos removal and loading out on site. The roofing works continued into term time by a few weeks but was carefully managed to avoid disruption or risk to the school.
The project finished within budget with a slight delay due to inclement weather.
